Things have changed a lot since those first nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery tools were introduced. Most of today’s high-performance cordless riveting tools use lithium-ion batteries because they deliver more power and a longer operating time in a smaller package.

Battery-powered tools are gaining popularity on the factory floor, as well. And the torque threshold for cordless tools is typically around 105 newton-meters; the threshold for electric or pneumatic tools is 50 newton-meters or higher, so cordless tools have plenty of power. In fact, many of the newest plants are standardizing on cordless tools to eliminate cords and hoses all over the floor.

Cordless tools are increasingly durable. In addition to lithium-ion batteries, they often feature brushless motors for lasting performance without the need for service. Many of the latest cordless tools also feature hybrid switches to eliminate mechanical failure.
